MOSCOW, February 2 (Itar-Tass) —— Greece was deliberately robbed of possibilities to improve its economy, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at the Russia Forum 2012 on Thursday.
“Greece was deprived of a possibility to devalue its national currency, as a matter of fact, it was deprived of a possibility to issue money, since it has no issuance centre,” he said. “The only way left for Greece was to cut social spending and foster competition, because it is absolutely impossible to make a leap to overhaul the entire economy, industry, and the real sector without investments, and it is likewise impossible to attract investments in a situation like this.”
Many countries face similar problems, Putin said and added that no actual external help came to Greece as of now.
“The thing is not that the Greeks do not want or cannot work,” said the Russian prime minister. “There are no hi-tech possibilities for the efficient use of highly-qualified workforce in Greece, like there are none in Russia, which is the root of the problem.”
